Masterclass Design for The Just City

INVESTIGATING THE ROLE OF DESIGN FOR THE JUST CITY

 June 18th – 22nd, full-time

How can design and planning contribute to the conditions of justice in cities, neighborhoods and the public realm? This question and the definitions of urban justice and the just city are being examined in The Just City Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. This lab is led by Professor Toni L. Griffin, an American designer, planner and researcher with years of experience working in complex urban transformation projects.

Coming June Prof. Griffin will come to Rotterdam to share her insights and knowledge at the Masterclass ‘Design for The Just City’, organized by Veldacademie, Architecture Institute Rotterdam (AIR) and Centre of Expertise Social Innovation (EMI). During a five day program at our studio (Waalhaven Oostzijde 1) we’ll study four cases of urban development projects in Rotterdam. At the end of the week we share our insights and visions at a public seminar with local professionals and stakeholders. The results will also be published.

This masterclass is free of charge and open to various students, from architecture an urban design/planning to social studies, health sciences and art school. Recently graduated students can also apply. We make a selection of 25 participants, based on motivation, educational and personal background. The aim is to compose a diverse team in order to study the concept of (in)justice from a broad perspective.

You can apply until Friday the 25th of May. At the end of May we announce our selection.
