Minor Sociaal duurzame wijk – transitiestrategieën voor probleemwijken
Onder de titel ‘’De sociaal duurzame wijk – transitiestrategieën voor probleemwijken” start in september een studio binnen het zogenaamde Minorprogramma. Academische studenten van alle studierichtingen kunnen zich inschrijven. Doelstelling is om met interdisciplinaire teams aan opgaven over wijkverbetering te werken. In deze Minor staat de sociaalfysieke invalshoek, i.e. de relatie tussen maatschappij en ruimte, binnen de context van een achterstandswijk centraal; zij wordt op een onderzoekende en ontwerpende wijze van werken benaderd. Leefbaarheid, duurzaamheid en het ontwerpen en (aan)sturen van sociaal-fysieke transitie- en transformatie-processen zijn hierbij kernbegrippen waar de (ontwerpende) onderzoeker en (onderzoekende) ontwerper mee aan de slag moeten.
In het interdisciplinaire ontwerp- en onderzoeksatelier wordt gewerkt door middel van onderzoek, analyse en ontwerp aan een (sociaal-fysieke) transitiestrategie voor een probleemwijk uit de praktijk. Rond een werkelijke casus wordt in interactie met lokale bewoners en bestuurders een concreet (ruimtelijk of proces-) ontwerp gemaakt, betrekking hebbende op een geïdentificeerde leefbaarheidsopgave. Deze kan zowel elementen bevatten van stedenbouw en ruimtelijke ordening als van bestuurlijke en maatschappelijke procesontwerpen.
Seminars ‘De Leefbare Stad’
Een theoretische verdieping enerzijds en de praktische vertaalslag naar de transitiestrategie + ruimtelijke uitwerking anderzijds van de begrippen leefbaarheid en duurzaamheid komen aan de orde in een aantal seminars, getiteld ‘De leefbare stad’.
Methodologieprogramma
Een vakoefening over een aantal metho-d(olog)ische aspecten bij strategieontwikkeling, sociaalwetenschappelijk onderzoek, het ontwerpend onderzoeken en onderzoekend ontwerpen geven de student de munitie om de praktische probleemwijkopgave academisch te lijf te gaan.
Communicatie, Presentatie, Visualisatie
Een vakoefening over mondeling en schriftelijk presenteren en visualiseren leert de student de vaardigheden en communicatietechnieken om onderzoek, strategische visie en ontwerp helder, eenduidig en transparant te communiceren naar de relevante actoren in het planvormingsproces.
De Minor is een co-productie van meerdere instituten. De penvoerder is de TU Delft, Faculteit der Bouwkunde (leerstoelen Ruimtelijke Planning & Strategie en Milieutechnisch Ontwerpen). Daarnaast zijn Erasmus Universiteit R’dam (sociaal-ruimtelijke wetenschappen bij monde van DRIFT (Dutch Research Institute for Transitions) en IHS (Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies) en de leerstoel Media van de TUD, faculteit Bouwkunde, partners in het programma.
Veldacademie Rotterdam
De Minor speelt zich af op de Veldacademie, midden in de sociaal-maatschappelijke werkelijkheid van de Rotterdamse stadswijkenproblematiek. De Veldacademie draagt zorg voor de contacten met de relevante actoren, en ook voor de toegang tot data en informatie en het gebruik van (ICT) faciliteiten.

Meeting Reality
Field Academy is a collaboration between the Municipality of Rotterdam and the TU Delft. It is - literally - a studio in the field where students of different educational settings can collectively work on topics concerning neighborhood transformation. We are focused on dealing with public issues based on the input generated by the actual context of the area.
Trough this initiative the city of Rotterdam and the TU Delft aim to train the future generation of architects and urbanists that will be able to deal with the complex issue of regeneration. Will you be one of them?
Your research topic
The graduation studio relates to the master tracks of Architecture, Urbanism and Real Estate & Housing. Depending upon your perspective and subject, a qualified team of teachers will be formed. You can either work on subjects according to your own fascination and interest, or choose themes from our extensive research topics database (see our website for more info).
Right now we are working on the following topics: assisted living (life-time sustainable settlements), urban interfaces (building concepts for the network community) and sustainable transformation of the private housing stock. So far we have collaborations within the Faculty of Architecture, the Climate Adaptation Lab, the chair of Urban Regeneration and Explore Lab.
Working on Site
You get to experience everyday life on site. Our first studio is situated in Oud Charlois, a regeneration area on the south bank of Rotterdam close to Zuidplein and Waalhaven. The research territory is the entire Rotterdam inner-city area. In the studio you will have your own place and you will find various facilities such as wireless internet, copier, model room and a presentation space. You will be working under supervision of TU academic staff and professionals of the municipal services. Soon other studios will be opened.
Residents and Professionals
The Field Academy is accessible for all those concerned with the research topics and the district. During the master you will have intense communication on your design proposals with various professionals, stakeholders and residents. The Field Academy is collaborating with officials from different departments of the city of Rotterdam, such as Urban Development and Housing, Social Welfare & Labor, Economics as well as the Statistics Bureau, GIS-Services and Frontline Office. Besides that the mayor housing corporations take part as well as researchers of the Erasmus University.
Complex issues
Many districts in Rotterdam and other European cities face complex social issues and degeneration. Making a design for a regeneration area demands a deeper understanding of this complexity. That's why the Field Academy takes a holistic design approach. We put a great effort on analyzing. Analysis will be carried out using the scales of the city, the neighborhood and the house, meanwhile screening the domains living & habitat, social networks, work & income, education, healthcare, safety and local economy.
During the analysis we make use of different research methods and sources such as literature, statistic data, observations and interviews. We are using GPS-tracking techniques in order to get to know more about lifestyle, mobility patterns and the usage of public space. Inhabitants and other people involved give lectures in our space.
Multidisciplinary
Besides the Faculty of Architecture we are also involving other educational- and research institutes in our practice. We study the metropolitan context through interdisciplinary fieldwork and regenerate cross-links in the complex structure of social, economical and public questions Your work and progress will be published on our website, in a newsletter and is regularly communicated to the people concerned with the realization of the future city.

Het accent van deze onderwijsmodule ligt bij een stedelijke transformatie van beperkte schaal. Kwaliteit en gebruik van openbare ruimte , stedelijke typologie, groen en infrastructuur vormen hierbij vaste ingrediënten. De opgave staat altijd in relatie tot het actuele onderzoek van de leerstoel Urban Design.

Ontwerpstrategieën voor probleemwijken - BSc6 = AFGESLOTEN =
Studenten duiden op basis van een 'confrontatiecollege' met participanten in het gebied het probleem van een zogenaamde 'probleemwijk' en dragen vervolgens oplossingsrichtingen en strategieën hiervoor aan. Uitgangspunt vormt de omgang met een maatschappelijk relevant onderwerp waarbij de input door ‘het veld' geleverd wordt en niet door de docent!
